Govt Allows New Gas Connections After 3 Years

The government has announced new guidelines for domestic gas connections, allowing consumers to apply online for RLNG supply. This major step comes after a three-year ban on new connections. Applicants who already paid the demand note will also benefit under the new rules. The move is expected to improve access to clean, affordable energy across Pakistan. The initiative also supports the government’s push for digital services and public convenience.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik chaired a meeting to review the plan for expanding RLNG connections. Officials discussed setting a high target for new connections in the first year. Malik stressed the need for a simple and reliable process for all consumers. He highlighted that RLNG is about 30% cheaper than LPG and safer for homes. The policy aims to lower costs and improve safety for households nationwide.
Under the new system, people can apply for RLNG connections online through SNGPL and SSGC websites and apps. Applications can also be submitted in person at local Sui gas offices. Project management offices will be set up to monitor the full process. These teams will ensure that each application is handled quickly and fairly. The minister urged all departments to respond swiftly to public complaints.
Good news was also announced for those who applied earlier. Consumers who already paid the demand note can now get RLNG connections by paying the remaining charges. This relief will help thousands who had been waiting for years. The policy treats these earlier applicants fairly under the new rules. It also makes better use of already collected funds and consumer trust.
The installation of new gas connections is set to start in the next financial year. Regular demand notice fees are set at Rs18,000, while urgent connections may cost Rs80,000. For RLNG, 5–10 marla homes will pay Rs40,000, while larger homes will pay Rs43,000. This pricing includes both the demand notice and security fees. The new system is seen as a milestone in ensuring affordable energy for all.
